매튜 맥커너히 2014 아카데미 수상소감(감동)

"달라스 바이어스 클럽"으로  2014 아카데미 남우주연상을 받은 매튜 맥커너히의 수상소감입니다.

 

영문과 국문 둘다 번역 입니다.

 

There’s a few things, about three things to my count that I need each day.

제가 매일 필요로 하는 몇 가지가 있습니다. 제 계산으로는 세 가지 정도 됩니다.

 

One I need something to look up to, another something to look forward to, and another is someone to chase.

하나는 존경할 무언가가 필요하고, 또 하나는 기대할 무언가가 필요하며, 마지막으로는 쫓을 누군가가 필요합니다.

 

Now first off I want to thank God, because that’s who I look up to. He has graced my life with opportunities that I know are not of my hand or of any human hand.

먼저 하나님께 감사드리고 싶습니다. 그분이 제가 존경하는 존재이기 때문입니다. 그분은 제 삶에 제가 만들어낸 것도 아니고 인간의 손으로 만들어진 것도 아닌 기회를 주셨습니다.

 

He has shown me that it is a scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates.

그분은 감사의 마음이 되돌아오는 것이 과학적 사실임을 보여주셨습니다.

 

In the words of the late Charlie Laughton, who said “When you got God, you got a friend, and that friend is you.”

고(故) 찰리 라우튼의 말처럼 "하나님을 가지면, 친구를 가진 것이며, 그 친구는 바로 당신입니다."

 

To my family, that’s who and what I look forward to. To my Father who I know he is up there right now with a big pot of gumbo. He has got a lemon meringue pie over there, he is probably in his underwear and he has got a cold can of Miller Lite, he is dancing right now.

제 가족에게, 그들이 제가 기대하는 존재입니다. 지금 위에서 큰 냄비에 군보를 만들고 계실 아버지께, 그 옆에는 레몬 머랭 파이가 있을 것이고, 아마도 속옷 차림으로 밀러 라이트 한 캔을 들고 춤을 추고 계실 것입니다.

 

To you Dad, you taught me what it means to be a man.

아버지, 당신은 저에게 남자가 된다는 것이 무엇인지 가르쳐 주셨습니다.

 

To my Mother who is here tonight, who taught me and my two older brothers, demanded that we respect ourselves. And what we in turn learned was that we were better able to respect others. Thank you for that Mama.

오늘 밤 여기 계신 어머니께, 저와 두 형에게 자신을 존중하라고 요구하셨습니다. 그 덕분에 우리는 타인을 더 잘 존중할 수 있게 되었습니다. 감사합니다, 어머니.

 

To my wife Camila, and my kids Levi, Vida, Livingston. The courage and significance you give me every day I go out the door is unparalleled. You are the four people in my life that I want to make the most proud of me, Thank you.

아내 카밀라와 제 아이들 레비, 비다, 리빙스턴에게. 당신들이 매일 저에게 주는 용기와 의미는 비할 데 없습니다. 당신들은 제가 가장 자랑스럽게 만들고 싶은 네 사람입니다. 감사합니다.

 

And to my hero, that’s who I chase. Now when I was 15 years old, I have a very important person in my life come to me and say, “Who is your hero?”. And I said I don’t know I gotta think about that, give me a couple of weeks. I come back two weeks later, this person comes up and says “Who’s your hero?” And so I thought about it and I said you know who it is, it’s me in 10 years.

그리고 제 영웅, 제가 쫓는 사람입니다. 제가 15살이었을 때, 제 인생에서 아주 중요한 사람이 저에게 와서 "네 영웅은 누구냐?"고 물었습니다. 저는 "모르겠어요, 생각해볼게요, 몇 주만 주세요."라고 말했습니다. 2주 후에 돌아와서 그 사람이 다시 물었습니다 "네 영웅은 누구냐?" 그래서 저는 생각하고 "알겠어요, 10년 후의 저입니다."라고 말했습니다.

 

So I turn 25, 10 years later that same person comes to me and goes “so are you a hero?” And I was like, not even close. No, no, no. She said “Why?” I said because my hero is me at 35.

그래서 제가 25살이 되었습니다. 10년 후에 그 사람이 다시 와서 "그럼 이제 네가 영웅이냐?"고 물었습니다. 저는 "전혀 아니에요. 전혀."라고 말했습니다. 그가 "왜?"라고 묻자 저는 "제 영웅은 35살의 저입니다."라고 말했습니다.

 

So you see every day, every week, every month and every year of my life, my hero is always 10 years away. I’m never going to beat my hero. I’m not going to obtain that, I know I’m not. And that’s just fine with me because that keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing.

그래서 보세요, 제 인생에서 매일, 매주, 매월, 매년 제 영웅은 항상 10년 뒤에 있습니다. 저는 결코 제 영웅을 따라잡지 못할 것입니다. 저는 그것을 얻지 못할 것이고, 저는 그것을 알고 있습니다. 그리고 그것은 괜찮습니다, 왜냐하면 그것이 저에게 계속 쫓을 누군가를 주기 때문입니다.

 

So, to any of us, whatever those things are, whatever that is we look up to, whatever it is we look forward to, and whoever it is we are chasing to that I say amen. To that I say alright, alright, alright. And to that I say just keep living huh. Thank you.

그래서 우리 모두에게, 우리가 존경하는 것이 무엇이든, 우리가 기대하는 것이 무엇이든, 우리가 쫓는 사람이 누구이든, 저는 아멘이라고 말합니다. 저는 "좋아, 좋아, 좋아."라고 말합니다. 그리고 저는 "그냥 계속 살아가세요."라고 말합니다. 감사합니다.
